Bedford Borough Local Plan 2035: Public Consultation - Now closed
The council will shortly commence a consultation about the Local Plan 2035. Since we last consulted you significant work has been undertaken on the assessment of potential development sites and on the development strategy which explains where growth will be located throughout the borough. During this time, an updated housing requirement for Bedford Borough has also been produced, showing that we need to deliver 19,000 homes by 2035. Over half of this requirement can be met through existing planning permissions and allocations but we still need to allocate sites for an additional 8,000 new homes.
Before progressing any further with the local plan we are seeking your comments on a preferred development strategy. In particular we would like to hear your views about the merits of allocating one or more new settlements as part of this plan.
The consultation is also an opportunity to give your views on possible development sites in and on the edge of the urban area and on options for where growth could take place in and around the Group 1 villages to help deliver the number of new homes that are needed. Comments will be invited on a shortlist of potential development sites in smaller Group 2 villages to help the site selection process.
In addition, the evidence prepared to support the local plan will be published for comment and you will be able to tell us if you support the draft selection of Local Green Spaces.
Once this consultation is closed and responses have been analysed the next step is to produce a draft local plan that will be published for consultation in early 2018. The Local Plan 2035 timetable can be found in the Local Development Scheme (www.bedford.gov.uk/lds).
Details of how to comment on this paper can be found below. Please note that your responses must be received by 5pm on 9 June 2017. All responses may be made public.
